1 Welcome The Chairman introduced the meeting, welcoming all those present, and thanked Lt Col Orr KRH for the kind use of his Officers Mess. The Chairman set down his Mission Statement and Aims for the 06 season (see website), emphasising his desire to continue to encourage polo within the wider Army at all levels, ranks and Regiments. 3 Club Updates

RAPA. Members of RAPA took part in a number of tournaments in Germany last year, despite the large number of Op Tours. It will remain the hub for polo in Germany in 06 ,all queries should be directed to Maj (Richard) Boyle R Scots DG on his return from IRAQ in Apr.

TPC. TPC will continue to be the hub of Army Polo, offering subsidised pony hire, courses and training events. All enquires and course dates should be referred to the office 01980 602513.

Guards. Home to the Inter Regt Final again in 2006 and the Major General’s Cup, the club will again be supporting military polo. There are approx 9 places for military players at hugely discounted rates. All those interested in playing there should contact Maj (Rupert) Lewis 94631 2514.

Sandhurst. After a highly successful 2005, RMAS is anticipating another busy year. There are now 11 ponies at the club and Maj (Hume) Jones will be remaining as manager for another year. All those interested in playing there as a member should contact him on 94261 2520.

 
4 Membership 2005 saw membership levels rise, with several non-playing Regiments, such as the Black Watch, taking up the game. Membership now exceeds 100 people, with a core base of around 40-50 regular players. A solid membership base within APOLOA is critical so as to remain influential amongst other Army sports.
The Chairman stated that all players within the army are to join, it was agreed that membership will remain at £25 (RMAS Cadets, Other Ranks and University Cadets will not have to pay). The Registration form is on the website - all members are asked to complete it and despatch it, along with a cheque, to the Sec ASAP. NO PAY NO PLAY

6 Training

 



Grants. Members taking part in recognised polo training will be eligible for a grant from the Assoc – applications through the Sec.

Training Days. There will be a number of free training days organised for members through out the season. Similar to last year, each session will involve free tuition at TPC, including tactics, stick and balling and an instructional chukka. The first will take place on 1400 hrs 28 Apr. All details will be posted to the web.

Polo Courses. TPC will again be running a wide range of courses through out the season. Polo Reps are to encourage all those interested to sign up, they are official courses and provided at significantly discounted rates.

Coaches. The HPA will be running a series of coaching courses during the season. Anybody wishing to attend should contact the Chairman or Sec.

‘The Leap’. The Chairman has negotiated a deal with El Retiro Polo Club in Argentina, the hosts for the 2005 APOLOA tour, for individuals to attend polo placements at the cost of £150 per week plus flights. For those wishing to go to Argentina and improve their riding and polo contact the Sec.

7 Fixtures The complete 2006 Fixture List is on the web.
Hackett Inter Regimental 9 May – 16 Jul 06. The Final will be on Sunday 16 Jul at Guards Polo Club, Windsor and will be played on the Queen’s Ground. The entry form/ rules are on the web and available for Regts to download, the entry fee will remain at £150. Maximum support for the Tournament is encouraged.

Captains and Subalterns 22/23 Jul. This will be played by the same rules as last year on at TPC. Following the great success from last year, all teams are encouraged to enter at any level of handicap, there will be no cap on individual player handicaps; however teams will be filtered and placed in their appropriate league. All interested individuals without a core team should contact the Sec. Instructions to follow on the web.

Major Generals Cup 11-13 Aug. All those teams/ individuals wanting to play should contact Maj J Hayward or the Sec. Maj Hayward is to post a copy of the rules on the web.

Match Managers. In order to spread the burden of work in trying to organise tournaments, the Committee will select and individual to run a particular fixture. This will involve organising players, administration for the fixture as well as finances.

8 Tours Tours Out. Since the end of the 05 season, the Association has sent tours to Argentina and Nigeria. Full reports can be found on the APOLOA and CSPA websites respectively. There are a number of tours at the back end of 06, all those interested are to contact the Chairman/ Sec.

Tours In. Nothing has been confirmed yet for 06, however it is likely that South Africa will be sending a team in Jul. All members are asked to support where possible.

Overseas Tours. Rules surrounding tours still remain extant - All Army overseas tours must be cleared with the ASCB through the APOLOA Sec and Chairman, this is a legal requirement and must be borne in mind if organising tours at Regimental level. Individuals wishing to go on an overseas visit should apply for a grant through the Director CSPA. All APOLOA members are to join the Army lottery, this allows members to benefit from financial backing. Lottery membership details will be posted on the web.

9 Sponsorship Hackett. Hackett will be the sponsor of Army Polo during the 06 season. This is an exciting development and will enable the committee to continue supporting its members. Further details to follow.

Captains and Subalterns. The Chairman is in the process of negotiating a deal with Thomas Crown, the sponsors of the 2005 Inter Regimental, and optimistic about how things are proceeding.

10 Insurance The Committee encourages all members to take out personnel accident insurance and PAX to ensure that they are sufficiently covered in the event of on accident. The Sec will look at companies offering such cover.
Details of cover through the HPA will be posted on the web ASAP.
