RAF
Cranwell Weekend The weather on the Saturday was lovely, the sun was out and the spectators enjoyed some free flowing low goal polo. The Army team were drawn in the same group as RAF Rock team and the AGC girls team. The first game saw the team pitted against RAF Rock, the game started off slow for the Army team with them ending up a goal down after the first chukka. Major Humphries proved a solid number 4 by scoring the two goals the team ended up with, however that was not enough seeing the Army lose 3-2. The second game was against the AGC ladies team; by now the Army side had loosened up and were ready to play. More great shots were being made and there was some good marking of the AGC’s number 4, putting her out of the game a lot in the second chukka. One goal from Major Humphries and one from Captain Meredith-Hardy saw the Army team notch their first win of the season edging the ladies out 2-1 1⁄2, but four missed goals kept the score low between the service counterparts. Having come second in the group the Army team went into the third place game on the Sunday against the local Leadenham team. The following day saw the Army team come out raring to go, the opportunity to play a full four chukkas was what the guys were after and the goals started to come. Captain de St John-Pryce and Lieutenant Mackie played well at number 4 and 3 respectively proving too strong of a match for their opposition. Five goals from Major Humphries and one from Captain Mundawarara saw the Army team runaway with a final 6 – 1 score, securing a well earned third place. |
