HERITAGE DAY POLO AT RMAS SUNDAY 20TH JUNE 2010

TWO Hackett Army sides played at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst Heritage Day Polo.

The Army Novice Team took on the cadets in an exciting game in front of a large crowd: The Army side, made up from the RA, and their coach held a superior Ocdt Team until the final chukka and were unlucky that two quick goals in the 4th saw them lose 3_ to 5.

The star player for the cadets was Doug White who has great potential for the future. For the Army, Bdr Alex Woodhouse played well above his experience and as a result has been selected for the Army Development game against the RAF on July 31st. The RA have been well coached by Maj Humphries since the beginning of the season.

The teams were:

RMAS: Ocdts: Nick Watson -1, John Hathaway-White -2, Ned Harris -2 and Doug White 0.

Hackett Army Novice: Gnrs Delport and Jackson, Sgt Britton, Bdr Woodhouse (all -2) and their Coach Maj Cameron Humphries 0

The HACKETT Army Team played in the Exhibition Game that followed. This was a 12 goal match and was a great example of open and fast polo by two experienced sides who passed the ball fluently and accurately.

The presence of Howard Hipwood and Gaston Devrient (the Army Coach) raised the game of both Maj Rupert Lewis and Capt Mathew Eyre-Brook way above their +1 handicaps. In one play Mathew E-B tidied up after Howard Hipwood and scored a long range under the neck shot more usually associated with a +4/5 player.

The Colbournes Audi Team with rising star George Meyrick +4 and Maurice and Eden Omerod (both +3) along with Capt Jack Mann +2 did well to hold the power of the Army side but after a fierce tussle in the final chukka the score was 8-6 in favour of the Hackett Army side.

The teams were:

Colbourne Audi: Capt Jack Mann +2, Eden Omerod +3, George Meyrick +4, Maurice Omerod +3

HACKETT Army: Capt Mathew Eyre-Brook +1, Howard Hipwood +5, Gaston Devrient +5, Maj Rupert Lewis +1
