1. General. The Inter-Regimental Tournament is organised
by The Army Polo Association (APoloA) on behalf of the Combined Services
Polo Association (CSPA), the governing authority for the tournament.
2. Inter-Regimental Committee. Authority to run the
tournament has been delegated to a sub-committee. It will consist of:
The Chairman CSPA Capt R Mason RN
The Chairman APoloA Lt Col S Ledger
The Director CSPA Maj MJA Cann
The Secretary APoloA Capt M Dollar
Every exceptional or controversial case under any heading is to be referred
in writing to either Director CSPA or Secretary APoloA for a decision
by the Committee.
3. Aim of the Tournament. The aim of the tournament is to promote
the highest level of “Regimental” polo. This aim is reflected
in the rules for eligibility of entry.
4. Eligibility of Teams to Enter. The aim is to produce
as many “Regimental” teams as possible, within the following
general rules:
a. Any Regiment or Unit of the Regular Army and TA.
b. Any team from the Royal Navy or Royal Marines.
c. Any team from the RAF or RAF Regiment.
d. Teams should represent a single cap badge where possible.
e. Composite teams of more than one regiment will be required to justify
their entry on the basis of inability to form a single regimental team.
5. Eligibility of Players. Players may be:
a. Of any rank.
b. Must be serving or retired members of the relevant regiment. Retired
players are required to play off their last registered handicap and
should not prevent a serving officer from playing, if available. In
any event, no more than 2 retired officers per team are eligible. The
Committee will consider all team entries and may question any team entry.
c. Substitutes are eligible under HPA rules providing they satisfy the
above criteria.
6. Tournament Rules. The rules are:
a. The Inter-Regimental will be played on handicap under HPA rules.
b. In the event of extra time being played, goals will be widened in
accordance with HPA supplementary rules. Umpires are to remind teams
of this rule before each match.
c. If the colours of the teams, in the umpires opinion, likely to cause
confusion then the second named team is to change. The exception to
this rule is the QRL who, through precedence (the 1922 rule) will always
play in Regimental colours.
d. The Committee will conduct the draw at their own discretion and their
decision is final.
e. There is no limit on the number of ponies played, however, no pony
is to play more than 2 chukkas in any one match.
7. Entries, Trophies and Fees. The entry fee for the
Tournament is £150 per team. Cheques should be made payable to
Army Polo Association and should accompany the entry form. The entry
form should show teams by name and handicap for seeding purposes, plus,
if necessary, a brief explanation of why any “known” serving
player has been excluded for a retired player.
8. Trophies will be presented for the winning team and runners
up.
9. The Cup will be retained by the CSPA, the Secretary CSPA will ensure
it is properly engraved and insured.
