RULE CHANGES FOR PENALTIES
Key pointers to the changes for penalties are below but make sure
that you read the rules before you play this year. Ignorance of them
may cost you the game.
Penalty 2 - Hit from the Spot or 30 Yard Hit
Spot Hit - No change
30 Yard Hit – One Hit and Undefended.
The striker may hit or hit at the ball only once and the team facing
the hit have no play and can only watch from a safe distance behind
their back line and not between the goal posts
Goal scored or missed as normal.
If ball fails to cross the back line, it is a spot hit to the defending
team from where the ball came to rest, as for a Penalty 5a.
Penalties on or within the 60 (3, 4 and 6). The striker
must have the intent to score with one hit and may not make a preliminary
hit for himself or a team mate.
In the case of a mishit or miss, he or any member of his team may
then only play a half shot until the ball has been hit or hit at by
an opponent. Thereafter, it is free play but umpires can still penalise
dangerous stick work.
Penalty 3 - 40 Yard Hit - Defended.
The defenders may defend as before.
Penalty 4 - 60 Yard Hit - Defended
Other than the one hit as above, no change.
Penalty 6 - Safety 60 – Defended
One hit as above but otherwise no change except that, because it has
to be taken with one hit, the ball shall be placed on the new marks
on the 60 yard line should the ball have crossed the back line more
than 40 yards out from the centre of the goal.
