INSURANCE – HPA MEMBERS

Confirmation of cover for 1st April 2005 – 31st March 2006 has finally been received. The cover has been agreed with Hamilton and Partners and is underwritten by Brit Insurance Ltd. The cover is for Public Liability only; there is no player to player cover. A summary of the detail is below:

a. Sums Insured.
UK: 5 million any one event.
Ireland: EU 6.5. million any one event.
b. Territorial Limits.
For those normally resident in the UK and Ireland, the cover is worldwide but is limited to 6 months in all overseas. For non-residents, cover is limited to the UK and Ireland. Normally resident is considered as not less than 9 months of the year.
c. Activities Covered.
These include playing, training and umpiring. Coaching is also covered provided that it is being given for no reward. Any player coaching for reward will have to apply to Hamiltons for cover, the cost of which will depend on how much coaching they do. A coach who is working on behalf of a club should ensure that they are covered by the club policy.
d. Ponies.
Ponies are not covered as such, but any pony that has an HPA passport is covered for any Third Party damage that it might cause throughout the year; for example, if it gets loose on a road during the winter months. This is additional cover from the previous policy and a worthwhile addition, although it is understood that those without ponies will not benefit from it, and that some may already be covered under another estate or household policy.
e. Excess.
UK: £250.
Ireland: €2000. It is understood that this is not unusual for Ireland.

The cost of the policy is £65,265, which works out at just over £26 per member on the assumption
that there will be 2,500 members. There will be no change to the subscriptions for 2005.
